The Art Deco
Society Auckland Inc (ADSA) was formed in 1996 to promote interest in the Art
Deco style and to help preserve and protect the Art Deco
architecture of Auckland, New Zealand.

The Society holds
events featuring overseas and local speakers,
dinners, picnics, and regular visits to Art Deco homes and other
buildings. While most activities are advertised only to members,
guests are welcome, and some events, such as overseas speakers and
our frequent Preservation Balls, are open to the public. Members receive
a regular newsletter about upcoming events.
Members are kept
informed about events by our update. When resources permit,
a magazine, The Metropolitan Flyer, is published, which includes articles
on Deco antiques and collectibles, Auckland architecture of the 20s
30s and 40s, reviews of books and old movies, and excerpts from
magazines and books of the period.
In addition to the information in our
magazine, the Art Deco Society has access to information to assist its members in learning
about the Art Deco style and restoring early 20th Century
buildings, furniture and other items.
A number of our members
own and are renovating Art Deco homes, and the Society has arranged substantial
discounts on a number of products and services to assist
with these projects. Our Preservation group was formed in 1997 to
identify and document Art Deco buildings, gardens and environments
in Auckland, and to encourage their preservation. This group works
closely with the New Zealand Historic
Places Trust and local Councils to achieve its aims.
If
you would like to help or participate in any of our activities, or
want more information, please contact.
ADSA, as a member of the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS), receives publications from International Art Deco Societies. These are available for loan to members.
ICADS congresses are held every two years in cities around the world. Members of ADSA are entitled to attend and immerse themselves in a week of Art Deco delights.
