DONNER HOUSE TOUR & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Where: Donner House - Titrangi
When: Sunday 3rd August at 2.00pm
Art Deco Society members have been invited to view the modernist house at Titirangi which Tibor Donner designed for himself in the late 1940s. The current owner, architect Paul Jenkin, will talk about the Donner House and his restoration work. Also present will be landscape historian and Society member, John Adam, who has extensive knowledge of Donner's landscape designs.
Hungarian Tibor Donner, came to NZ in 1927 and attended University of Auckland. With Anthony Barlett, he designed the Savage Memorial and gardens in 1941. From 1946 to 1967 he was Auckland's City Architect, designing many landmarks, including the Parnell Baths in the early 1950s.
Following our tour and talk, we have been very kindly invited to stay and hold the AGM in the lounge, after which the current Committee members will provide afternoontea.
